Spencer Strider narrowly missed out on a scoreless spring, while Sam dug deep into Jarred Kelenic’s impending season. Strider was fantastic during spring and was so efficient in his planned three innings of work that he came back out for one more inning, foregoing a meaningless but enjoyable goal of a scoreless spring. Despite the fact that it is only spring, Spencer appears to be poised to crush major league batters for another season, having added a curveball to his already elite arsenal. If he stays healthy and avoids some of the terrible luck that affected his ERA last year, he might win his first Cy Young Award. The next time we see him pitch, he will be opening.
