NCAA Tournament Second Round

When: Saturday, March 23, 8 p.m. ET

Where: Spectrum Center, Charlotte, N.C.

TV channel: CBS

In the first round, Tennessee defeated No. 15 and previous March Madness Cinderella Saint Peter’s 83-49, to put it mildly. The Volunteers dominated the glass 47 to 21, forcing the Peacocks to shoot 29.1% (16–55) overall, including 16.7% (4–24) from three-point range. Senior guard Dalton Knecht led Tennessee with a team-high 23 points and four three-pointers while shooting more over 50% from the field.

In their NCAA debut, the Longhorns faced a formidable No. 10 Colorado State squad, and they too prevailed with tough defense. Texas’s effort to keep the Rams to 29.3 percent shooting and force 19 turnovers was crucial in the 56-44 defensive slugfest, despite the fact that it only made one of its 14 long-range shots. When facing a better team, the Longhorns will try to have the same impact, but they’ll probably still need greater offensive play to defeat the Vols and former Texas coach Rick Barnes.
