The Jacksonville Jaguars have agreed on a new contract with Josh Allen. That news has spread around the football world, and Jacksonville supporters have already had an opportunity to react to it. Now the focus is on two other NFL players who are awaiting contract extensions.
Who are the two players? Will their teams offer these guys extensions? Let’s examine deeper into this.
Jacksonville Jaguars Extend Josh Allen
Let us start with the primary headline. The Jaguars expect to pay Allen $150 million over the next five years. $88 million of the $150 million will be guaranteed.
As a result, Allen became the eighth franchise-tagged player to obtain an extension. He is considered one of
Tee Higgins
Tee Higgins is one of the best wide receivers in the NFL. Unfortunately, he happens to be on a team that has two of these such wide receivers. The other wide receiver he plays with happens to be Ja’Marr Chase. This creates a problem for the Cincinnati Bengals.
Higgins has been with the Bengals for the last four seasons. As his rookie deal was expiring this offseason, the Bengals decided to place the franchise tag on him to give it at least one more run. So, why is Higgins so valuable for the Bengals?
He has 257 receptions and 3,684 receiving yards in his career. On top of this, he has 24 touchdown receptions in four years.
Antoine Winfield Jr.
The other player waiting for a contract extension is Antoine Winfield Jr. This safety for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers is living up to his father’s legacy. He was in a similar spot as Higgins with his contract. As a result, the Buccaneers decided to place their franchise tag on him.
So, what has Winfield done during the first four years of his NFL career? He has seven interceptions, 11 forced fumbles, 15 sacks, and 384 combined tackles during this stretch. Now, we will have to see if Winfield and Higgins get rewarded like the other franchise tagged players.
