Hawn Weller said he regrets the decision he made on October 13, which resulted in his discharge from the Adirondack Thunder last week.
Weller told The Post-Star by phone Wednesday morning that his decision to accept a drink from a fan during a preseason game he wasn’t playing in at Cool Insuring Arena was incorrect.
“If I could have taken it back, I would,” said Weller, 37, a South Glens Falls native with 16 seasons of professional hockey experience in the AHL, ECHL, and Germany.
However, Weller claimed that the punishment he received — being released from his local ECHL team, which traded for him midway through the 2021-22 season — did not suit the transgression.

However, Weller said he felt the punishment — being released from his hometown ECHL team that traded for him midway through the 2021-22 season — did not fit the infraction.
“I’m obviously upset about the whole thing. I’m not, not taking responsibility or accountability,” Weller said. “I do believe I should have gained a lot more respect as a player, but it’s not for me to decide. I get what I did was wrong, but I don’t think this had to be the outcome.”
