SAN DIEGO – SAN DIEGO – San Diego State men’s basketball team, which reached the Sweet 16 at the 2024 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament, finished the season ranked in both the Associated Press and Coaches Poll top 25 slotting in at No. 17 in the AP and No. 18 in the Coaches Poll. SDSU totaled 505 points in the AP poll and 217 in the Coaches poll and is one of two Mountain West programs to be ranked in the final poll of the season. This is the first time in the 75-year history of the rankings that the AP has released a top 25 poll after the national championship game.
SDSU entered the postseason ranked No. 24/25 and moved up seven spots in each poll, the second biggest move among teams that were ranked in both the last regular season and postseason polls.
Its appearance in this week’s AP poll marks the 110th week since the start of the 2010-11 season San Diego State has been nationally ranked, more than any other program in the state of California in that time frame. In addition, the program was ranked for 10 weeks this season, the seventh time since the start of the 2010-11 campaign, SDSU has appeared for double digit weeks in a season in the poll.
The No. 17 ranking matches its highest of the season and for the eighth time in school history the Aztecs occupy the No. 17 spot. In addition, its No. 17 ranking is the program’s highest since it ended the 2020-21 regular season at No. 16.
