The New York Yankees have to be unsettled with the current situation involving ace Gerrit Cole.
He is the reigning AL Cy Young winner and was supposed to lead the Yankees’ pitching staff this season.
But, a potential injury now has him in jeopardy of missing some time.
Cole is still seeking different opinions on his elbow.
But, there is always a reason for concern when a pitcher is experiencing discomfort in his throwing arm.
According to Bryan Hoch, Yankees manager Aaron Boone thinks “it would be difficult” for Cole to start Opening Day
While the timeline for the injury is still uncertain, Cole needs time to build his arm up for the season.
In his last spring start, he only threw 47 pitches.
It will take him a while to build up to the 90+ pitches he needs to be able to throw on Opening Day.
All the Yankees can hope for is that the injury to Cole is not season-ending.
They could sign free-agent pitchers Blake Snell or Jordan Montgomery as insurance, or they could look to the trade market for another quality starter.
Either way, the Yankees are hoping to get good news on Cole sooner rather than later.
