Broncos coach Kevin Walters has had the rug further tugged underneath him with his contract stand-off taking a twist.
The Broncos — and coach Kevin Walters — are caught between a rock and a hard place as their contract stand-off took another twist on Wednesday.
The club great is one of the few coaches who is uncontracted beyond the 2022 season, andThe Courier-Mail reported on Tuesday night the situation has taken a turn with Walters’ formally requesting a one-year extension through to the end of the 2023 season.
It comes with the Broncos desperate to return to play finals football after a 2021 season where the club won just seven of its 24 games. The club also won the wooden spoon in 2020.
There were rumblings last month that there is already further questions surrounding Walters’ future after reports emerged that senior players complained about the intensity of Brisbane’s pre-season regime, forcing Walters to ease up his training methods.
