UConn women’s basketball lands Princeton point guard Kaitlyn Chen from transfer portal

The Huskies received a commitment from Princeton star guard Kaitlyn Chen out of the transfer portal.

Chen is the Huskies’ first pick up out of the transfer portal since Fairfield’s Lou Lopez Sénéchal signed with UConn in spring of 2022.

Chen announced her decision Sunday morning with a post on Instagram that read: “One more year of fun with UConn WBB.”

Chen played three years for the Tigers under head coach and former Husky Carla Berube (the Ivy League canceled her freshman year in 2020-21 due to the pandemic). Since the Ivy League does not grant fifth-year eligibility to student-athletes, Chen entered the portal in the beginning of the 2023-24 season with the intention of extending her collegiate career one more year at a new school for 2024-25.

UConn Huskies Men’s basketball Head Coach Dan Hurley celebrates his second straight national championship with his team and the fans at a rally outside the XL Center in Hartford, Conn. on Saturday, April 13, 2024.
