ESPN Reports: Former Oklahoma RB is Back in the Transfer Portal

Running back John Emery Jr.’s college journey has been anything but conventional.

After starting his career at LSU in 2020, he transferred to Oklahoma briefly before returning to LSU for the 2021 season. However, he sat out the 2022 season for undisclosed reasons and returned to play for LSU in 2023.

This offseason, he transferred to North Texas but was removed from the roster on April 4 after missing most of spring practice due to injury.

Emery, a former 4-star recruit, played high school football at Lancaster, TX, under coach Chris Gilbert, who joined the North Texas staff last year before leaving for a spot on Texas’ support staff.

Despite his talent, injuries and transfer complications have limited Emery’s college playing time. He has accumulated 16 career rushing attempts for 70 yards and one touchdown over three seasons.
