West Ham loanee Flynn Downes has admitted that he would “love” to extend his stay with Southampton after a successful season at St Mary’s Stadium.
The 25-year-old midfielder joined the Championship side on a season-long loan last summer and has become an integral part of Russell Martin’s squad, having made 35 appearances in all competitions.
According to ESPNp [8 May], Downes is set to be given a chance to prove himself at the London Stadium this summer as Julen Lopetegui looks set to replace David Moyes as manager.
Speaking to the Daily Echo on Monday (13 May), he reflected on his future, saying: “Of course, I would love to stay here next season. I love it here.
“I love the gaffer. I love the staff. I love this place. Obviously, we will have to see what happens. I won’t know too much until I go back to West Ham. We will see what happens there.”
