The former Motherwell player’s current deal is set to expire this month but he has been offered an extension. Chennaiyin boss Owen Coyle has already extended Ryan Edwards’ deal and is keen for Shields to join him for another campaign in the Indian Super League.
Shields helped Chennaiyin get to the play-offs and also played in a number of positions, including on the wing and midfield. The 26-year-old moved to India last year after his Fir Park deal expired. He has established himself as a firm favourite and is in the lead in the voting for supporters’ player of the year. The former Sunderland attacker has also had spells at Albion Rovers, Aldershot and Queen of the South.
