Breaking Now: Jamie Vardy has signed a five-year contract with Wrexham for around

  • Vardy helped Leicester win promotion back to the Premier League this season, scoring 18 goals in the second-tier. However, the evergreen forward turned 37 in January, and his contract is due to expire this summer. Enzo Maresca has confirmed talks are underway to keep the striker, but Ferdinand believes he could be tempted to make a move to Wrexham, who will be playing in League One next season.

    • Wrexham have not ruled out the prospect of trying to convince Vardy to move to Wales this summer, with club director Humphrey Ker insisting they would not be “put off” by his age. While the Premier League title winner has played up and down the divisions, he has never made an appearance in League One.

    • Speaking on his FIVE YouTube channel, Red Devils legend Ferdinand said: “He’s got to play another season in the Premier League. I want to see him get a couple of goals in the Premier League, it’s nice. The only club I’d like him to go to if he leaves is Wrexham.”

Pressed on why he felt a move to Wrexham would appeal, the ex-England and United defender replied: “It’s got that Hollywood feel and he’s had a bit of a Hollywood career. Started from the bottom now we’re here, and he wants to reverse that.”

      • Vardy may have a decision to make this summer, especially as talks are underway over him extending his stay at the King Power Stadium. Wrexham, in the meantime, will continue preparations for League One under their Hollywood owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.
