CHICAGO — Artūras Karnišovas, Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations for the Chicago Bulls, said that he did not anticipate the outcome of Wednesday night’s game.
The Bulls selected Matas Buzelis, a basketball player of Lithuanian heritage, in the first round of the 2024 NBA Draft as the next stage of Chicago’s roster improvements to remain competitive in the race for an NBA championship.
Following the first round of the NBA Draft, Karnišovas discussed the grand plan. That was his pledge for change. It’s ongoing and includes some frightening statements.
“When I last saw you guys, I told you that we needed to make changes and we have started that process,” Karnišovas added. “While I cannot speak to all of the potential changes, it’s hard to predict what we might look like in a week or two.”
The “week or two” time frame will include NBA free agency, with the Bulls expected to make the most of the changes.
The Bulls are already looking different.
The Bulls have grown younger by moving Alex Caruso for 21-year-old Josh Giddey and picking Buzelis, who is 19 years old. Karnišovas remarked that they also became more versatile.
Buzelis embodies the vision of adaptability.
“Our league is moving towards multi-positional wings and just size and athleticism and versatility can put it on the floor and then switch ability,” Karnišovas remarked. “We average more than two blocks per game, I don’t know exactly what to expect next year, but I know that those guys are gonna be on the floor and they’re very versatile.”
