Trade rumors:The Red Sox Might Trade Kenley Jansen for a Starting Pitcher.see why…
Swapping a reliever rental for a starter rental is a tough proposition; the starter typically offers more innings and is generally considered more valuable.
Rosenthal mentioned the Dodgers’ Walker Buehler as a possibility, although he admitted it might not be an ideal fit. Buehler is currently on the injured list with right hip inflammation and is recovering from Tommy John surgery, making it a risky move for either side.
If the Dodgers’ starters return from the injured list slowly, someone like James Paxton could become available, though the Red Sox might aim higher. Michael Wacha is another intriguing option, and the Royals should be looking for bullpen help.
Wacha has been impressive after a slow start to the season. Over his past seven starts, he has posted a 2.43 ERA with opponents hitting just .203 against him. Coincidentally, his contract aligns almost perfectly with Jansen’s, making it a potential swap between two playoff-caliber teams to address their needs.
A survey of 35 baseball executives ranked Jansen as the third most likely reliever to be traded before July 30, according to The Athletic’s Jim Bowden.
Bowden wrote on June 26 that while it was “hard for me to believe they would trade their closer at the deadline,” rival executives suggested that several “buyer to buyer”-type trades could happen this year, and Jansen could be expendable in the right deal.
