“The incident between Lorch and Hotto significantly affected the team, and I’ll explain it as I saw it,” Mako said on the Pirates’ show “Change Room.”
“Some players didn’t get along with Hotto; I won’t name names. We’re supposed to be a team, but on the field, they wouldn’t pass to each other and tackled each other harshly.
“It was a major issue that impacted the team. They wouldn’t greet each other. From my perspective, it seemed like player number three (Lorch) might have been jealous because he was often injured while Hotto was scoring.
“In my view, it was jealousy because others got involved. Some of them are still on the team, but I won’t specify who did or said what. But it ran very deep,” he concluded.
