SAD BREAKING:Blue Jays pitcher Jordan Romano undergoes surgery on his elbow.

Jordan Romano underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right elbow Wednesday and will be sidelined from throwing for another six weeks. It’s uncertain if the two-time All-Star will return this season.

Romano missed part of spring training and the first 17 games of the regular season due to elbow soreness. He went on the injured list again on June 1, retroactive to May 30.

Last Saturday, the Blue Jays announced that Romano would be shut down because of persistent elbow pain. The Canadian pitcher consulted with noted surgeon Dr. Keith Meister in Texas on Tuesday. The surgery was performed to repair an impingement.

Once Romano begins a throwing program, likely in August, the team will have a better idea of his potential return this season.

This season, Romano is 1-2 with eight saves in nine opportunities and a 6.59 ERA in 15 relief appearances. Over his career, the two-time All-Star has a record of 20-17 with 105 saves and a 2.90 ERA in 231 relief appearances with the Blue Jays.
