TRADE ROMURS:Underrated Blue Jays Pitcher Could Be Key Trade Deadline Target for Red Sox.
With the trade deadline rapidly approaching, the Boston Red Sox are clearly gearing up to be buyers, addressing some specific needs.
The most pressing issue is adding a starting pitcher, especially with Garrett Whitlock out for the season. The team has managed so far, but adding more pitching depth would be beneficial.
In addition to the rotation, the bullpen could use reinforcement. Like any team aiming for a playoff spot, Boston should look to strengthen this area as well.
One potential, cost-effective option is veteran reliever Trevor Richards from the Toronto Blue Jays. The Athletic’s Aaron Gleeman and Eno Sarris ranked Richards as the third-best relief option available.
“Relief fliers: Andrew Chafin (LHP), Detroit Tigers, Luis García (RHP), Los Angeles Angels, and Trevor Richards (RHP), Toronto Blue Jays,” Gleeman and Sarris noted. “For a lefty matchup, Andrew Chafin has an impressive strikeout-to-walk ratio against left-handers over the past two years and the best overall stats. Jalen Beeks is another option, and Trevor Richards’ changeup makes him effective in this role.”
