According to multiple sources who are not authorized to speak publicly about roster changes, the Detroit Tigers are promoting Meadows, an exceptional center field defender, from Triple-A Toledo before Friday’s start of a three-game series against the Cincinnati Reds at Great American Ball Park. This will be Meadows’ first game for the Tigers since May 6.
Mark Canha of the Tigers is concentrating on what helped him reach 1,000 games despite a two-month slump.
The Tigers previously sent Meadows, who still has rookie status, down to Triple-A Toledo on May 7 — exactly 59 days ago — due to his offensive struggles. After making the Opening Day roster out of spring training, Meadows hit just .096 with two home runs, a .443 OPS, and a 37.7% strikeout rate in 32 games, though he did contribute plus-4 defensive runs saved in center field.
