JUST IN:Former Maple Leafs forward Ryan O’Reilly encouraged the Predators to trade for Mitch Marner before their recent spending spree.
The ongoing saga involving Mitch Marner continues to unfold.
Since the conclusion of the 2023-24 season, Mitch Marner, a star forward for the Toronto Maple Leafs, has been at the center of attention. The scrutiny around the ‘Core Four’ has intensified, sparking a divisive debate among Toronto fans about the next steps for the 27-year-old, who seems to be the odd man out under the current circumstances.
Despite the speculation, the club has tried to quiet the chatter. General Manager Brad Treliving has deflected questions about the winger’s future and has highlighted newly appointed head coach Craig Berube’s eagerness to coach him next season. For now, all indications suggest that Marner will remain with the team.
However, an interesting report from Nick Kypreos of the Toronto Star revealed that former Leafs forward Ryan O’Reilly strongly advocated for the Nashville Predators to pursue a blockbuster trade for Mitch Marner. This was before the Predators committed significant funds to sign high-profile free agents such as Steven Stamkos, Jonathan Marchessault, and Brady Skjei.
“Prior to the Predators spending a substantial amount on free agents like Stamkos, Jonathan Marchessault, and Brady Skjei, ex-Leaf Ryan O’Reilly did everything he could to convince GM Barry Trotz to make a push and trade for Mitch Marner,” Kypreos said.
