JUST IN:The Oilers’ Updated Depth Chart and Two Defensemen They Should Target.Oilers front office excelled in…
On the first day of free agency without Ken Holland in five seasons, the Edmonton Oilers front office excelled in their acquisitions. Although the focus was on forwards, which I believe was less of a priority than strengthening their right side on defense, there is no denying they hit a home run.
The standout acquisitions were Viktor Arvidsson and Jeff Skinner, both on team-friendly deals. Equally impressive was the re-signing of Adam Henrique, Matias Janmark, and Connor Brown, who ended the playoffs on a high note as a line. They became fan favorites, and as long as they play in depth roles, I expect them to pick up where they left off in 2024-25. I’m also confident that Brown will return to a 12-15 goal pace, given how much better he looked in the final stretch and during the playoffs.
So, let’s delve deeper and explore some possible line combinations.
It’s reasonable to assume that Arvidsson will be on Leon Draisaitl’s wing. Jeff Jackson mentioned in his availability that they envisioned the 31-year-old in that position when targeting him. Skinner is also likely to start on that line, especially with Evander Kane potentially beginning the next season on Long-Term Injured Reserve (LTIR).
