BREAKING NEWS :Maple Leafs’ $65 Million Forward has Return

JUST IN:Maple Leafs’ $65 Million Forward ‘Likely’ to Return

NHL insider Chris Johnston anticipates that Toronto Maple Leafs forward Mitch Marner will return to the team for the 2024-25 NHL season.

Marner has been at the center of trade rumors since Toronto’s playoff elimination, as he enters the final year of his seven-year, $65.4 million contract signed in 2019. Despite being included in numerous trade speculations, no deal has materialized, and Johnston expects Marner to stay with the Maple Leafs.

“I’d just say, Mitch Marner is more likely than not to return to the team. We’ll see how things develop as time goes on. I think they are comfortable with Mitch Marner returning if that is how things turn out, if there isn’t enough interest, or if a trade that kind of even makes sense,” Johnston said on The Chris Johnston Show.

According to Johnston, Toronto is at ease with Marner staying for the 2024-25 NHL season and playing out the final year of his contract, despite the trade rumors.

Last season, Marner tallied 26 goals and 59 assists for 85 points in 69 regular-season games with Toronto.
