SHOCKING NEWS:After winning the British Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton experienced something unprecedented in his F1 career.
Hamilton secured his 104th Grand Prix victory at Silverstone, crossing the finish line ahead of Max Verstappen and Lando Norris. This marked his first win in 945 days, his last triumph being at the 2021 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. The event was one of the year’s most unforgettable sporting moments, with the crowd giving Hamilton a tremendous ovation as he completed the race. The 39-year-old, who is set to leave Mercedes for Ferrari at the end of the year, shared an emotional exchange with his race engineer Peter Bonnington over the team radio.
Once he exited the car, Hamilton shared a long embrace with his father, Anthony, who played a crucial role in his journey to F1 and continues to be influential. The seven-time world champion was moved to tears during his post-race interview, something he believed had never happened to him after any of his previous 103 victories. When Brazilian journalist Felipe Kieling asked if he had ever cried after a race before, Hamilton responded, “No, I don’t think I have.” Reflecting on losing the championship to Verstappen in 2021 and the challenges of recent years, Hamilton expressed that his tears were a mix of happiness and sorrow, ultimately stemming from deep gratitude.
“I’m also proud of myself and the team. There were many times when I doubted my ability to achieve what I did today, and that was hard to accept. Today proved I don’t have to accept that.”
After a challenging start to 2024, signs of a Mercedes resurgence have appeared in recent weeks, with both Hamilton and his teammate George Russell demonstrating improved speed.
