Reflecting on the British Grand Prix, F1 pundit Martin Brundle criticized McLaren for failing their drivers at Silverstone. He believes the Woking-based team should have clinched the victory, as they had the fastest car throughout the weekend.
Brundle also mentioned that Max Verstappen, who only had the fifth-fastest car on Sunday, likely felt satisfied with a second-place finish, as it provided him with a greater lead in the championship. He explained that without Sergio Perez in contention, Red Bull could fully concentrate on Verstappen’s race, allowing the Dutchman to regain lost ground quickly.
“I think McLaren should have won the race yesterday. They let the opportunity slip away because they had the speed,” Brundle commented during the Sky Sports F1 podcast.
He further added, “At the moment, Red Bull is facing some challenges, but they have a strong combination with Max at the wheel. And Mercedes are indicating they have more to offer, with more upgrades on the way.”
