From the Formula One racing world, Sir Lewis Carl Davidson Hamilton, the seven-time world champion driver, stands tied with Michael Schumacher at the top of the all-time list. His total of 104 Formula One victories is the highest in F1 history.
Hamilton, a Black man from England who was knighted in 2021 for his groundbreaking achievements in Formula One racing, won his country’s Grand Prix for a record ninth time, ending a three-year, 56-race absence from the victory podium.
At 39 years old, Hamilton will conclude his long-term relationship with Mercedes after this season to join Ferrari Racing. He is the oldest F1 race winner since Nigel Mansell in 1994 and the oldest to win his home country’s race since Juan Manuel Fangio in 1958. Hamilton also has the distinction of being a Formula One winner in over 300 races (344). This victory is yet another remarkable accomplishment for a mixed-race child who grew up in poverty in Stevenage, Hertfordshire, England.
