Detroit Tigers veteran Mark Canha was absent from the lineup after leaving Saturday’s game against the Los Angeles Dodgers in the fourth inning due to discomfort in his right wrist, as reported by manager A.J. Hinch. Throughout this season, the 35-year-old, who has a decade of MLB experience, has also dealt with occasional hip issues since early June. The extent of the wrist injury remains uncertain.

“We’re not going to take any risks with it and will have it evaluated by medical professionals,” stated Hinch.

Canha sat out three consecutive games before making a return to the lineup in Friday’s 4-3 loss to the Dodgers, where he performed well as the designated hitter, going 2-for-2 with two walks.

In Saturday’s game at Comerica Park, the Tigers substituted Canha, who was again serving as the designated hitter, with pinch-hitter Jake Rogers in the fourth inning.

Despite these challenges, Canha has managed to avoid being placed on the injured list so far.

Canha joined the Tigers through a trade with the Milwaukee Brewers in November 2023, with the team exercising his $11.5 million club option for the 2024 season.

In the 84 games he has played, encompassing 341 plate appearances, Canha has recorded a .228 batting average with six home runs, 38 walks, and 65 strikeouts. Since May 1, he has maintained a .203 batting average and a .553 OPS over 54 games leading up to Saturday’s contest.
