Boston Bruins General Manager Don Sweeney announced on Friday that the team has signed defensemen Michael Callahan and Alec Regula to one-year, two-way contracts each carrying a salary cap hit of $775,000.
Callahan, 24, played 70 games with the Providence Bruins in the American Hockey League during the 2023-24 season, tallying four goals and 13 assists. The 6-foot-2, 196-pound defenseman has appeared in 140 career AHL games, all with Providence, accumulating six goals and 21 assists. Callahan spent four seasons at Providence College, where he recorded 13 goals and 53 assists in 138 games. A native of Franklin, Massachusetts, he was drafted by the Arizona Coyotes in the fifth round of the 2018 NHL Draft and acquired by Boston in a trade for a seventh-round draft pick on February 22, 2022.
Regula, 23, appeared in 55 games with the Providence Bruins during the 2023-24 season, registering four goals and 22 assists with a plus-36 rating. The 6-foot-4, 218-pound defenseman has played in 163 career AHL games with Providence and the Rockford IceHogs, compiling 16 goals and 61 assists with a plus-42 rating. Regula has also skated in 22 NHL games with the Chicago Blackhawks, contributing one goal. Originally drafted by the Detroit Red Wings in the third round (67th overall) of the 2018 NHL Draft, he was acquired by Boston alongside defenseman Ian Mitchell in a trade involving forwards Taylor Hall and Nick Foligno on June 26, 2003.
