Disappointing:NFL Executive Expresses Disappointment as Stefon Diggs’ Performance Declines ‘Slightly;’ Vertical Speed ‘Diminished’.As Stefon Diggs aims for …
As Stefon Diggs aims for a rebound season following a disappointing end to 2023, there is growing concern within the NFL that the four-time Pro Bowler’s skill set may be in decline.
In a poll of the top 10 wide receivers for the 2024 season conducted by ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, one AFC executive expressed doubts about Diggs’ current talent level.
“I noticed a slight decline—I think his vertical speed has tapered off a bit,” the executive said.
Diggs had an intriguing 2023 with the Buffalo Bills, marked by a stark contrast in performance. Through the first six games, he played like an All-Pro candidate with 49 receptions for 620 yards and five touchdowns, recording five 100-yard games in that span.
However, starting in Week 7, Diggs’ performance sharply declined. He accumulated only 563 yards and three touchdowns over the final 11 games, failing to reach the 100-yard mark in any of those contests.
No apparent physical issues were reported, as Diggs never appeared on Buffalo’s injury report. The Bills’ offense underwent changes after Week 10 when offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey was fired and replaced by Joe Brady.
Following this change, Diggs’ snap count also declined. He played at least 80 percent of the offensive snaps in 10 of the first 12 games but reached that mark only once in the final five games.
Throughout the season, there were indications that Diggs wasn’t entirely happy in Buffalo. His brother, Dallas Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs, even suggested on social media that Stefon needed to “get up outta there” after a Week 10 loss to the Denver Broncos.
