Detroit Tigers right-hander Matt Manning, who has been pitching with Triple-A Toledo since late May, has been placed on the minor-league injured list due to a right lat strain.

Manning started for Toledo on Sunday and reported the injury to the Tigers during the major league All-Star break. This marks the third consecutive season he has been placed on the injured list.

The 26-year-old made five starts for the Tigers in the 2024 season, but only two were as a regular member of the starting rotation. The first three starts were made as the 27th player for doubleheaders.

Manning, the No. 9 overall pick in the 2016 draft, did not make the Opening Day roster despite a strong spring training. He has a 4.88 ERA, 12 walks, and 23 strikeouts over 27⅔ innings in his five starts with the Tigers.

For Triple-A Toledo, he has a 4.53 ERA, 22 walks, and 60 strikeouts over 59⅔ innings in 12 games (11 starts).

In his most recent start Sunday against the Omaha Storm Chasers, the Triple-A affiliate of the Kansas City Royals, Manning delivered his best stat line. He allowed one unearned run on one hit and two walks, striking out four over six innings and throwing 79 pitches.

It was his second game without an earned run in 2024.
