Despite having achieved 200 Formula 1 podiums, Lewis Hamilton continues to be surprised by the sport. At 39, Hamilton has remained a formidable contender, especially since Mercedes upgraded their car. He recently secured his 104th race win at the British GP and competed fiercely for a podium spot against Max Verstappen in Hungary. With these impressive results, Hamilton is poised to impress his fans again at the Belgian GP this weekend.

In qualifying at Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps, Hamilton performed well. After trailing the McLaren duo at the Hungarian GP, he managed to outperform Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri in Q3. However, both Red Bulls, driven by Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez, as well as Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc, finished ahead of Hamilton.

As a result, Hamilton was set to start the Belgian GP from P4. However, there was an unexpected twist: Red Bull announced that Verstappen would receive a new power unit, resulting in a 10-place grid penalty according to FIA rules. Consequently, Verstappen would start from 11th, moving Hamilton up to P3.

Hamilton was initially unaware of Verstappen’s penalty. During a post-qualifying interview, he expressed surprise at his improved starting position, saying, “Sorry, P3 tomorrow? Oh yeah, I hadn’t thought about his penalty.” Nevertheless, Hamilton will need to stay focused as he heads into the race.
