The Athletics Integrity Unit announced on Wednesday that it has appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport regarding an independent arbitration’s June decision of “no fault” for American sprinter Erriyon Knighton.

The 20-year-old athlete tested positive for a “metabolite of trenbolone” in March during an out-of-competition drug test, leading to a suspension by the United States Anti-Doping Agency.

An independent arbitration tribunal ruled Knighton not at fault after an expedited hearing, finding that he had unknowingly consumed meat contaminated with the steroid. This ruling came just days before the U.S. Olympic Trials, enabling Knighton, a Florida native, to compete and qualify for the U.S. Olympic team.

When questioned about his positive test during the Trials, Knighton stated, “In my heart, I never did anything wrong.”
