Tony Stewart admits he is worried about being embarrassed by a “terrible” NHRA idea suggested by his wife, Leah.
Tony Stewart recently transitioned to drag racing, taking on this new role to substitute for his wife, Leah Pruett. Leah, a full-time NHRA racer, had to step back from racing as she is seven months pregnant, making Stewart’s involvement a practical decision.
As a supportive husband, Tony Stewart chose to take her place in races while Leah concentrated on her health and pregnancy. However, Tony noted that Leah is eager to return to racing as soon as possible. Despite the rarity of returning to racing after a break, Leah recently proposed an idea that has left the 53-year-old feeling uncertain.
In the latest episode of The Pat McAfee Show, Tony Stewart covered a range of topics related to racing during the 3-hour podcast. The discussion included a segment about his wife, with Pat McAfee initially questioning whether Tony and his wife had married since their last meeting. Once that was clarified, they proceeded to talk about NHRA.
Stewart explained to McAfee why he transitioned from NASCAR to drag racing, highlighting that it’s unwise for his pregnant wife to drive a car that accelerates from 0 to 300 mph in seconds. When discussing Leah’s potential return to racing, Stewart mentioned her “terrible” idea of creating a second top-fuel team so she could race against him. He expressed his strong disapproval, noting that the idea is flawed and adding, “If you beat your wife, you’re stuck on the couch forever.”
