Darlington girl aims for the Junior Drag Racing Championship title.

A 12-year-old from Darlington is gearing up to compete in the national finals of the British Junior Drag Racing Championship on Friday, with dreams of claiming the title.

Candra Redshaw will race at Santa Pod Raceway, aiming to outperform some of Europe’s fastest young drivers.

She drives a Junior Dragster branded with ODYSSEY® batteries, capable of reaching speeds up to 85 mph and accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in just over three seconds.

The car was passed down from her eldest brother, Harry, a former British and French Champion, and her other brother, Damion, is also involved in competitive drag racing.

“I’ve been watching my brothers race for years, and I’ve seen more girls getting involved,” Candra said. “I’m excited for the opportunity to showcase my skills in the British Junior Drag Racing Championship.”

“I’ve been following my brothers’ races for years and have noticed that more girls are getting involved,” Candra said. “I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to demonstrate my abilities in the British Junior Drag Racing Championship.”

“Winning the title would feel like a dream come true,” Candra said. “Drag racing is a family tradition, and I love the atmosphere at race events, surrounded by friends, cousins, and relatives.

“This is my first season competing, and I’m excited to bring some girl power to the team. I can’t wait to get out there and give it my all.”

Candra is being sponsored by EnerSys, a global leader in energy solutions and manufacturer of ODYSSEY® batteries. Dave McMullen, Senior Director of Global Marketing at EnerSys, expressed excitement about partnering with the Redshaw family and supporting grassroots motorsport, noting that Candra adds a fresh dynamic to the team.

The Redshaw siblings’ passion for drag racing comes from their father, Chris, who has loved motorsport for as long as he can remember. He assists with the mechanical aspects, while their mother, Tracy, manages operations. Candra’s twin sister, Lilly, supports her siblings by towing them in her half-scale Land Rover® vehicle.
