Country Music Rising Star Drake Milligan Decide to Build’s His own…read more

Drake Milligan, a rising country music star, has built his career by blending his roots in classic country with a unique persona. Growing up in Mansfield, Texas, Milligan was captivated by Elvis Presley from a young age. At just 7, he saw an Elvis impersonator and became fascinated with “The King,” eventually performing as Elvis himself at various local events with his mother. By his teens, Milligan was fully immersed in the world of Elvis impersonation, focusing on the ’50s Elvis and performing across Texas during summer breaks.

His experience impersonating Elvis prepared him for a major opportunity when, at 17, Milligan was cast as a young Elvis in CMT’s “Sun Records.” Moving to Nashville for the role, he left behind his senior year of high school and immersed himself in the world of entertainment. After his role in the series, Milligan briefly competed on “American Idol” but left, feeling unready for that stage.

Milligan’s big break came when BBR Music Group signed him after initially rejecting him, and he released his debut EP, followed by his 2022 album Dallas/Fort Worth. His appearance on “America’s Got Talent” helped further propel his career, where he finished in third place after performing his original song, “Sounds Like Something I’d Do.”

Since then, Milligan has been busy writing music, touring, and collaborating with Nashville songwriters. His latest EP, Jukebox Songs, released in February 2024, reflects his deep appreciation for timeless, classic melodies. The EP’s single “I Got a Problem” even made it onto the Billboard Top 100 at No. 62. For Milligan, creating songs that feel “instantly classic” is key, drawing inspiration from legends like Elvis, Roy Orbison, and Hank Williams.

Now in his 20s, Milligan is embarking on his first headlining tour after previously opening for Cody Johnson. Fans can catch him live at one of his shows, including his upcoming performance at Billy Bob’s Texas on September 28. As Milligan continues to grow in the country music scene, he remains committed to crafting songs with strong melodies that stand the test of time.
