HARRISBURG, N.C. – The No. 47 team is entering a new chapter in its storied history with a rebrand, new ownership structure, and a fresh identity. Previously known as JTG Racing, the organization will now operate under the name Hyak Motorsports, with Gordon Smith officially leading the team as principal owner. Smith, who assumed ownership at the end of 2023, is committed to driving innovation, energizing the team, and strengthening its legacy on and off the racetrack.
The name “HYAK” holds special significance, meaning “fast” in Chinook Jargon, a trade language from the Pacific Northwest. This choice underscores the team’s focus on speed, performance, and competitive excellence. Co-owners Brad Daugherty, Mark Hughes, and Ernie Cope will continue their roles, working closely with Smith to bring updated strategies, improved resources, and a renewed competitive edge to the team.
Smith shared his vision for the future: “Taking ownership of Hyak Motorsports is an exciting opportunity. I’m eager to build on the team’s past achievements, invest in its growth, and deliver new successes alongside our fans, sponsors, and crew.”
The 2025 season marks the beginning of this rebranded journey, with Hyak Motorsports set to kick off their campaign at the NASCAR Clash at Bowman Gray on February 2, 2025, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
Brad Daugherty expressed optimism about the changes: “2025 will be an exciting year as we strive to compete and win at NASCAR’s highest levels. The rebrand reflects our ambition to be the best.” Ernie Cope echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing the team’s commitment to elevating their performance: “With Ricky and the No. 47 crew, we’re focused on maintaining a winning culture while embracing this new era.”
Driver Ricky Stenhouse Jr., who delivered a historic Daytona 500 victory in February 2023, will remain behind the wheel of the No. 47 Chevrolet Camaro. Stenhouse expressed enthusiasm for the changes: “Rebranding is a great opportunity for growth. We learned a lot in 2024 and are determined to return to our 2023 performance levels. I’m excited to work with the same dedicated crew as we build on this momentum.”
Having achieved wins in each of the past two seasons, Hyak Motorsports aims to maintain and surpass its success. As the offseason progresses, the team plans to unveil more updates, solidifying their foundation for a promising 2025 season.
