Hamlin situation addressed after SHOCK NASCAR…read more
Denny Hamlin’s former crew chief, Chris Gabehart, has opened up about their recent split after six seasons together. Last month, it was announced that Gabehart would be stepping down from his role as the crew chief for Hamlin’s #11 Joe Gibbs Racing team and transitioning to a new position within the organization. This news took Hamlin by surprise, and he expressed his shock to the media at the time, stating, “I certainly was shocked. That’s all I’ll say.”
In response to Hamlin’s remarks, Gabehart recently appeared on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio, where he addressed the situation and their relationship. When asked if the split had strained their bond, Gabehart acknowledged the disappointment on both sides. “Is he disappointed? Sure. Am I disappointed? Sure,” he said, emphasizing that such decisions are never easy. He further explained that, as professionals, both he and Hamlin understand the need to make tough choices for the betterment of Joe Gibbs Racing. Gabehart stressed that their shared goal has always been to improve the organization, and that decisions like these are part of what has contributed to Hamlin’s long and successful career with the team.
Despite the challenges, Gabehart expressed confidence in Hamlin’s future success, reassuring fans that Hamlin would have everything needed to thrive in the coming season with a new crew chief, Chris Gayle, taking over in 2025.
The loss of Gabehart is not the only change Hamlin is facing. Last month, it was also revealed that Hamlin’s long-time sponsor, FedEx, would be ending their 19-year partnership with the driver, marking another significant shift in his racing career.
