Eddie Jordan Urges Ferrari to ABANDON Lewis Hamilton’s move due to…read more
Former Formula 1 team owner Eddie Jordan has advised Ferrari to reconsider its decision to sign Lewis Hamilton, urging the team to “find a way out” of the contract after a challenging 2024 season for the seven-time world champion. Jordan’s concerns stem from Hamilton’s recent admission that he is “not fast enough anymore,” a comment that the veteran F1 figure sees as a sign of diminishing self-confidence. He stressed that if Hamilton no longer believes in his own abilities, Ferrari should consider ending the deal, as success in Formula 1 is built on a driver’s self-belief.
Jordan also suggested that Hamilton, now 39 years old, might want to retire while preserving his legacy. He reminded the British driver that there are other pursuits beyond racing, such as music and fashion, which could provide new avenues to explore. With Hamilton still financially secure, Jordan believes that stepping away from the sport could allow him to maintain his iconic status rather than continue struggling on the track.
Hamilton’s move to Ferrari in 2025 shocked many in the F1 world, especially given his long and successful partnership with Mercedes. The decision was partly motivated by Hamilton’s childhood dream of racing for the Italian team, along with the desire for a fresh challenge following Mercedes’ decline in performance after dominating the sport in the early 2020s.
Despite the move, Hamilton’s 2024 season has been marked by inconsistency. Although he secured his first win in over two years at the British Grand Prix, followed by another victory at the Belgian Grand Prix, much of the season was disappointing. Hamilton’s performance was often overshadowed by his younger teammate, George Russell, particularly in qualifying. As the year progressed, the 39-year-old struggled to extract consistent performance from the Mercedes W15, and he appeared visibly frustrated by the lack of results toward the season’s end.
Adding to the doubts surrounding Hamilton’s future with Ferrari, former F1 driver Ralf Schumacher expressed concerns that if Hamilton loses his hunger for victory, he might fail to meet the high expectations of both himself and the team. Hamilton’s contract with Ferrari officially begins in 2025, but there are now questions about whether he will fulfill his commitment if his passion for racing diminishes. Hamilton is still completing his Mercedes farewell tour, postponing his post-season testing, and will take some time off before joining Ferrari in the upcoming season.
