Sergio Perez has made a significant announcement on social media following his recent exit from Red Bull after a tough 2024 Formula 1 season. The Mexican driver revealed a new collaboration with Disney, promoting the release of Mufasa, a prequel to The Lion King, which hit cinemas on December 20, just in time for the festive season.
Perez’s departure from Red Bull came after a challenging year in which he struggled with performance issues. He failed to secure a podium finish after April’s Chinese Grand Prix and finished a distant eighth in the drivers’ standings, 285 points behind his teammate, Max Verstappen. Despite being a part of the team during Verstappen’s four consecutive World Championship victories, Perez only won five races during his time with Red Bull.
This marks the end of Perez’s tenure with the team, and while his future in Formula 1 is uncertain, he is expected to take a break from racing in 2025. With no available spots on the grid for the upcoming season, Red Bull’s team principal, Christian Horner, suggested that Perez could potentially take on a role as a brand ambassador for the team in the near future. Given his recent struggles, it seems unlikely that other teams will offer him a seat next season. However, there will be two additional spots on the F1 grid in 2026 with the arrival of Cadillac, which could provide Perez with an opportunity to return.
Horner also noted that joining Red Bull’s sister team, VCARB, would not be the right move for Perez at this stage in his career. VCARB focuses on nurturing young talent, and at 34, Perez is at a different point in his racing journey, making it an ill-suited option for him.
Despite these challenges, Perez continues to maintain his marketing presence. He recently shared a post on Instagram wearing a Mufasa-themed T-shirt to help promote the movie’s release. The film, which is available in Spanish in Perez’s home country, is expected to perform well at the box office, with projections of over $50 million in its opening weekend. By endorsing Mufasa, Perez demonstrates his ongoing influence off the track as he adjusts to life away from Formula 1 for now.
