Lewis Hamilton SNUBBED as Wolff picks Verstappen for F1…read more
Max Verstappen has once again been voted the best driver in Formula 1 for the 2024 season, making history with a remarkable achievement. For the fourth consecutive year, Verstappen was recognized as the top driver by F1’s team principals, but this time there was a unique twist—every single team boss voted for him in the poll, marking the first time in the history of the vote that all 10 team principals unanimously agreed on the top spot.
While Red Bull and Verstappen did not dominate as they did in 2022 and 2023, the Dutch driver still managed to secure his fourth consecutive World Championship. He clinched the title with two races remaining, after a strong performance at the Las Vegas Grand Prix. Verstappen’s resilience was particularly impressive as he faced strong competition, notably from McLaren’s Lando Norris, who finished second in the 2024 World Championship.
The F1 team principal vote, conducted under the same points system used in the championship standings, is an annual tradition where each team boss selects their top 10 drivers. The driver voted number one receives 25 points, with each subsequent position awarded fewer points. Verstappen’s clean sweep in 2024 saw him top every single vote, with his main rival Norris coming in second and Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc in third.
The rest of the top 10 saw some notable shifts. McLaren’s Oscar Piastri made a strong climb, rising three places to finish fourth. Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz also moved up one position to claim fifth. Mercedes drivers George Russell and Lewis Hamilton finished sixth and seventh, with Russell improving by three spots, while Hamilton dropped two places from 2023.
In a surprising turn, Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso, who had a difficult 2024 season without a podium finish, fell significantly from second to ninth. Haas’ Nico Hülkenberg made an impressive entry into the top 10, while Alpine’s Pierre Gasly also made his first appearance in the rankings, rounding out the top 10.
This year’s results highlight Verstappen’s continued dominance in Formula 1, with team principals showing unanimous recognition of his excellence, despite tougher competition and less dominance from Red Bull in 2024.
