In 2024, Alex Bowman experienced a year of redemption in the NASCAR Cup Series after a difficult couple of seasons. Heading into the year, the #48 Hendrick Motorsports driver had not won a race since Las Vegas in 2022. However, he finally secured a victory at the Chicago Street Course, earning a spot in the playoffs. Despite this success, his playoff run was cut short in the Round of 12, where he was eliminated and finished the season in 9th place.

Bowman’s journey to the playoffs was marked by challenges. In 2022, he was sidelined for several races after suffering a concussion from a crash at Texas Motor Speedway, which kept him out for five races. He returned for the season finale at Phoenix but faced another setback the following year. In 2023, Bowman was injured during a High Limit Racing event at 34 Raceway in Iowa, where he fractured a vertebra. As a result, he missed multiple races, and despite a solid performance, he failed to win a race or qualify for the playoffs.

His win at the Chicago Street Course in 2024 was a significant achievement, especially given the hardships of the previous seasons. Bowman made it through the Round of 16 and into the Round of 12 in the playoffs. However, a controversial moment at the Charlotte Roval dashed his chances. After finishing in a position that would have secured a spot in the Round of 8, Bowman was disqualified due to a post-race inspection failure. This led to Joey Logano being reinstated and Bowman’s elimination, leaving him with a four-word regret: “I wish we had more.”
