Chase Briscoe Laughs Off Leaked Martin Truex Jr Replacement with…read more

Chase Briscoe has laughed off the unexpected way news of his move to Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) was revealed. The NASCAR driver, who is set to replace Martin Truex Jr. in the No. 19 Toyota Camry for the 2025 season, had his transition to JGR accidentally leaked by fellow driver Christopher Bell. This revelation marks a significant career change for Briscoe, as it signals the end of his tenure at Stewart-Haas Racing (SHR), where he has spent his entire Cup Series career since debuting in 2020.

Briscoe’s move to JGR is particularly notable as it comes at a time when SHR is ceasing operations at the end of the 2024 season. As a result, Briscoe, along with other SHR drivers, was seeking a new team. With Martin Truex Jr. planning to retire from full-time racing, the opening in the No. 19 Toyota at JGR presented Briscoe with a prime opportunity. Briscoe’s new ride will feature Bass Pro Shops as the primary sponsor, and his long-time crew chief, James Small, will remain with him at JGR.

The leak occurred during a media session at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, where Christopher Bell, also a JGR driver, accidentally revealed Briscoe’s future move. However, Briscoe wasn’t immediately aware of the slip-up. Due to poor cell service at the track, particularly outside the motorhome lot where there was no StarLink connection, Briscoe didn’t hear about the news until later.

On the Dinner With Racers podcast, Briscoe humorously recalled his reaction to the leak. He described how he had gone over to speak with Bell after a sprint car race, but due to the lack of signal, he didn’t catch the media’s attention or the leak right away. Later, when he found out, Briscoe chuckled at the situation, finding it all rather amusing.

This unintentional reveal has created a lighthearted moment amidst a major change in Briscoe’s racing career. After spending his early NASCAR years building a successful career with SHR, this shift to JGR marks a new chapter as he looks forward to racing in the highly competitive No. 19 Toyota, continuing his ascent in NASCAR’s Cup Series.
