Former Tennessee’ Running Back Finds New Home In…………

Former Tennessee Volunteers running back Khalifa Keith has announced his transfer to Appalachian State University, aiming to make a significant impact with the Mountaineers in the upcoming season.

Keith, a 6-foot-1, 239-pound running back from Birmingham, Alabama, joined the Volunteers as part of their 2023 recruiting class. During his two seasons at Tennessee, he played in a limited capacity, recording 124 rushing yards and one touchdown on 32 carries, along with a single reception for eight yards.

Despite his limited playing time, Keith was a highly regarded recruit, holding offers from several Power Five programs, including Florida State, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Miami, Mississippi State, and South Carolina.

Appalachian State, known for its strong football tradition, is coming off a challenging season with a 5-6 record, missing a bowl game for the first time since moving to the FBS in 2014. The addition of Keith is expected to bolster their backfield, providing a blend of size and power that could enhance their offensive strategies.

Keith’s decision to transfer was influenced by the depth chart at Tennessee, where he found limited opportunities behind emerging talents like DeSean Bishop and Peyton Lewis. His move to Appalachian State offers a fresh start and the potential for increased playing time, aligning with his athletic and academic goals.

As he transitions to the Sun Belt Conference, Keith’s experience in the Southeastern Conference (SEC) could prove valuable. His physical running style and determination to succeed may make him a key contributor to the Mountaineers’ offense in the 2025 season.

Appalachian State’s coaching staff and fan base are optimistic about Keith’s arrival, anticipating that his addition will strengthen the team’s performance and help them rebound from last season’s setbacks. Keith’s commitment reflects his desire to leverage his talents in a program that values his potential and offers the opportunity for a more prominent role on the field.

As the 2025 season approaches, all eyes will be on Keith to see how he adapts to his new environment and contributes to Appalachian State’s pursuit of success in the Sun Belt Conference.
