A man who was pulled from a house fire in Middleborough has died from his injuries, according to officials.
The man was identified as 67-year-old Nathaniel Williams.
On Monday, Dec. 2 around 9:15 p.m., Middleborough Fire responded to 6 Locust Street to a two-story home in South Middleborough, for a report of a house fire.
Firefighters arrived approximately 6 minutes later to find a house with the first floor fully ablaze.
Neighbors soon reported that they believed the homeowner, Williams, was still inside the home.
Firefighters found him, rescued him, and transported him to the hospital where he later died.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of death.
The origin and cause of the fire remain under investigation.
“On behalf of the entire Middleborough Fire Department, I want to express my heartfelt condolences to the victim’s family and loved ones,” Chief Owen Thompson said in a statement.
More than 40 firefighters tackled the blaze at a premises in White Lea Road, in Mexborough, on Tuesday.
At the height of the fire people living nearby were advised to keep their windows and doors shut to avoid “toxic smoke” from the site.
South Yorkshire Fire and Service has thanked people for their patience during the “protracted incident”
