Former Alabama offensive lineman Elijah Pritchett has announced his transfer to Nebraska, marking a significant addition for the Cornhuskers. Pritchett’s decision to leave Alabama was one of the most surprising moves of the winter transfer portal cycle, particularly for head coach Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide.

Pritchett, who played a pivotal role on Alabama’s offensive line in 2024, appeared in 12 games, starting 10 at right tackle and one at left tackle. His departure leaves a noticeable gap in experience for Alabama, though the team remains in a strong position heading into the 2025 season with plenty of depth on the offensive line.

For Nebraska, Pritchett’s transfer is a major win. Head coach Matt Rhule has been working to bolster the Cornhuskers’ offensive line, a crucial area of improvement to protect standout quarterback Dylan Raiola. With Pritchett’s background in the SEC and two years of eligibility remaining, he is expected to provide immediate stability and reliability to the Nebraska offense.

Pritchett was one of the top-ranked offensive tackles in the transfer portal this cycle, making his commitment to Nebraska a standout achievement for the program. His SEC experience, combined with his versatility to play multiple positions on the line, will be invaluable as Nebraska aims to compete at a higher level in 2025.

The transfer portal continues to reshape college football, with nearly 25% of all FBS scholarship players exploring their options in its first year, according to Pete Nakos of On3 Sports. This high rate of movement underscores the evolving landscape of college athletics, where players are increasingly seeking opportunities to find the best fit for their talents and goals.

For Pritchett, the move to Nebraska represents a fresh start and a chance to make a significant impact in the Big Ten. For Alabama, while losing a player of his caliber is a setback, the program’s history of recruiting and developing talent ensures they remain a powerhouse in college football.

As the Cornhuskers prepare for the 2025 season, Pritchett’s addition could be a key factor in their quest to rise in the Big Ten standings and protect their franchise quarterback.
