Europe’s biggest football stadium that’s undergoing massive £1bn transformation
Once renovation works are complete, the stadium’s capacity will increase to a whopping 105,000.
Football is the most popular sport in the world so it can’t come as much of a surprise that many clubs have huge stadiums. Some stunning grounds have recently opened including the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and the new Santiago Bernabeu. However, when it comes to capacity no stadium matches the one belonging to one of the most famous clubs in the world. And now it’s undergoing a transformation that’s expected to cost more than £1 billion.
Camp Nou, home of FC Barcelona, is the biggest football stadium in Europe. Located in Barcelona, Spain, it first opened in 1957 and had a capacity of 99,354 before the transformation began, according to Football Ground Guide. However, once renovation works are complete, the stadium’s capacity will increase to 105,000 – a whopping 15,000 people more than Wembley.
