Alabama football defensive starter makes decision on whether to return in 2025
Sophomore safety Keon Sabb has announced his return to the Alabama Crimson Tide for the 2025 football season, joining several key defensive players who have committed to another year. Sabb, a transfer from Michigan after the 2023 season, confirmed his decision via social media on Tuesday, a move widely anticipated by fans and analysts alike.
Sabb’s 2024 season was cut short due to a lower-body injury sustained during Alabama’s Oct. 19 loss to Tennessee. Prior to the injury, he made significant contributions in seven games, recording 39 tackles, four pass breakups, and two interceptions. Notably, both interceptions came during Alabama’s commanding 63-0 victory over Western Kentucky in the season opener on Aug. 31 at Bryant-Denny Stadium.
In his time at Michigan, Sabb played in 13 of the Wolverines’ 15 games during their 2023 national championship campaign. He was particularly impactful in the College Football Playoff Championship Game against Washington, where he tallied six tackles and two pass breakups.
Sabb is the second defensive back in recent days to confirm his return to Alabama for 2025. Junior cornerback Domani Jackson also announced on Sunday that he would return for his senior season.
In addition to Sabb and Jackson, other prominent defensive players have committed to the Crimson Tide for 2025, including defensive lineman LT Overton and linebackers Deontae Lawson and Justin Jefferson.
The Crimson Tide will begin their 2025 season on Aug. 30 with a high-profile matchup against Florida State at Doak Campbell Stadium in Tallahassee. With Sabb’s return, Alabama’s defense is shaping up to be a formidable force as they prepare for another run at a national title.
