Breaking: Houston WR “Jonah Wilson” commits to Texas A&M forever, plans to play untill retirement following major announcement..

Former Houston Cougars wide receiver Jonah Wilson has signed with Texas A&M out of the NCAA transfer portal, per On3’s Pete Nakos.

Wilson appeared in seven games for Houston in 2024, catching nine passes for 58 yards during his redshirt freshman campaign. The 6 foot 2 Houston native was used sparingly with the Cougars during his career.

The Cougars finished the 2024 season with a 4-8 overall record after losing their final three games of the season. Houston was 2-5 in games where Wilson recorded stats, and did not log any receptions after the Nov. 2 upset win over No. 17 Kansas State.

Wilson was a product of the 2023 recruiting class, where he was a four-star recruit according to the On3 Industry Rankings, which is a proprietary algorithm that compiles ratings and rankings from all four primary recruiting media services. He was the No. 288 overall player in his cycle and the No. 41 wide receiver.

He originally committed to Texas before his senior year of high school, but flipped to his home town Cougars before he graduated. Wilson ultimately spent two seasons with Houston after electing to redshirt after his true freshman season.

Texas A&M has decided to completely rework their receiver room. Head coach Mike Elko has hit the position hard out of the transfer portal as Wilson is the fourth addition. He joined Mario CarverKC Concepcion, and Micah Hudson.

All of those were either big names coming out of high school or highly rated in the portal. A big haul for the Aggies as they look to surround Marcel Reed with better weapons ahead of the 2025 season.

The portal officially opened on Monday, Dec. 9, 2024. More than 2,800 FBS scholarship players entered their names into the NCAA’s transfer database during the 2023-24 school year. Removing those who withdrew or went pro, the final total sat at 2,707 transfers.

That means roughly 25 percent of all FBS scholarship players hit free agency in one year, per On3’s Pete Nakos. It remains to be seen how those numbers stack up during the 2024-25 school year.
