Michigan Football Tops Big Ten Transfer Portal Rankings

As of January 13, 2025, Michigan football has claimed the top spot in the Big Ten for its transfer portal acquisitions. The Wolverines have bolstered their roster with a mix of offensive and defensive talent, ensuring depth and experience across key positions.

Wide receiver Alex Simpson, a transfer from Arizona, is one of the standout additions. Over two seasons with the Wildcats, Simpson amassed nearly 1,500 yards, including 342 return yards, showcasing his versatility. He joins former Indiana wideout Donoven McCulley to strengthen Michigan’s receiving corps.

Defensive back Anderson, another key transfer, brings familiarity with Michigan defensive pass game coordinator Lamar Morgan. The two worked together at Louisiana in 2022 and 2023 when Morgan was the team’s defensive coordinator. Despite injuries in 2024, Anderson recorded 19 tackles, adding to his career totals of 59 tackles, six pass breakups, and two interceptions, one of which he returned 54 yards for a touchdown.

Michigan’s impressive haul from the transfer portal includes several high-profile players: long snapper Trent Middleton (UCLA), quarterback Mikey Keene (Fresno State), running back Justice Haynes (Alabama), linebacker Troy Bowles (Georgia), offensive lineman Brady Norton (Cal Poly), and defensive lineman Tre Williams (Clemson). Other notable additions are defensive tackle Damon Payne Jr. (Alabama), Lawrence Hattar (Ferris State), and defensive back brothers TJ and Tevin Matcalf.

With these additions, Michigan has significantly strengthened both its offense and defense, setting the stage for another strong season under head coach Jim Harbaugh. The Wolverines’ ability to attract top talent through the transfer portal highlights their growing appeal and commitment to competing at the highest level.
