LSU Stuns Basketball World, Names Legend Seimone Augustus as Director of Player Development
**BATON ROUGE, La.** – In a move that electrifies both the LSU community and the wider women’s basketball world, LSU announced today that legendary alumna Seimone Augustus has been named the program’s new Director of Player Development.
Augustus, a Baton Rouge native and one of the most celebrated players in LSU and WNBA history, returns to her roots to take on a leadership role with the Tigers. Her appointment marks a full-circle moment for the former three-time All-American, whose brilliance on the court helped catapult LSU into the national spotlight in the early 2000s.
“We are thrilled to welcome Seimone back home,” said LSU head coach Kim Mulkey in a statement. “Her experience, leadership, and passion for LSU are unparalleled. She knows what it takes to succeed at the highest levels, and she’s the perfect mentor for the next generation of Tigers.”
Augustus’ resume speaks for itself: a four-time WNBA champion with the Minnesota Lynx, eight-time WNBA All-Star, and an Olympic gold medalist. At LSU, she led the Tigers to three consecutive Final Fours and was twice named the National Player of the Year.
In her new role, Augustus will focus on mentoring players, overseeing their development both on and off the court, and helping maintain the program’s championship culture. Her presence is expected to have an immediate impact, not only in player growth but also in recruiting and national perception.
“I’m honored and excited to be back at LSU,” Augustus said during the announcement. “This university shaped me into the person I am today. I can’t wait to give back and help these young women chase their dreams just like I did.”
The move comes at a pivotal time for LSU, as the program looks to build on its recent successes and cement its place among college basketball’s elite. With Augustus now part of the leadership team, LSU’s future shines even brighter.
