MilanChristian Pulisic, one of the brightest stars of the U.S. Men’s National Team (USMNT), has yet to officially extend his contract with AC Milan, despite earlier reports suggesting an agreement had already been reached. The American winger has become a key figure for the Rossoneri, elevating his reputation with a standout 2024-25 season in which he scored a personal-best 17 goals across all competitions — a testament to his growth and impact in Italy.
Midway through that campaign, multiple sources indicated that Pulisic was poised to commit his future to Milan by signing an extension that would add an extra year to his existing contract. However, as the summer window progresses, that renewal has yet to be finalized or publicly confirmed, raising questions about what might be delaying the process.
Despite speculation, the 26-year-old appears to be content at San Siro and is expected to remain part of Milan’s squad when the new Serie A season kicks off. Nevertheless, his absence from the U.S. squad for the current Gold Cup has not gone unnoticed, attracting criticism from some fans and pundits back home. Pulisic, however, opted to skip the tournament to allow for full rest and recovery, prioritizing his physical readiness for the 2025-26 club season.
According to journalist Matteo Moretto, the delay in signing is not due to financial issues or a breakdown in negotiations. In fact, Moretto reports that all terms of the new contract had been thoroughly discussed and virtually finalized months ago. Yet, Pulisic decided to hold off on signing, requesting “technical guarantees” from the club — presumably assurances about the team’s direction, playing style, or transfer strategy, particularly given Milan’s failure to qualify for European competition next season.
Pulisic’s approach reflects a desire not just for financial or personal gain, but for long-term career stability. With the 2026 FIFA World Cup on the horizon — a tournament where he’s expected to play a pivotal role for the host nation — he’s understandably focused on maintaining top form and consistency. For that, he needs the right club environment.
If Milan can provide the sporting clarity Pulisic is seeking, all signs point toward him continuing in red and black. He’s settled in Italy, is producing at a high level, and sees continuity as vital to sustaining the progress he’s made since arriving from Chelsea. But until pen meets paper, the uncertainty around his future will continue to linger.
