
In late June 2024, drag-racing legend John Force, then 75, suffered a harrowing crash at the NHRA Virginia Nationals. During his first-round Funny Car elimination, Force surged over 300 mph, crossing the finish line when his engine catastrophically exploded. The blast sent his Chevrolet Camaro careening across the track and smashing into both guard walls in a terrifying display of high-speed collision.
Remarkably, immediately after the wreck, Force was alert and talking to NHRA medical personnel on-site. He was then airlifted to a Virginia trauma center, where scans revealed a traumatic brain injury (TBI), a fractured sternum, and a fractured right wrist. He spent several days in traumatic care before being moved to the neuro ICU to focus on his head injury.
